Cultural relations between Germany and Bangladesh

The first point of contact for those in Bangladesh who are interested in German language and culture is the Goethe-Institut in Dhanmondi. Every year, around 700 Bangladeshis learn German there. The library offers a wide range of information on German literature, history and politics. The cultural events organised by the Goethe-Institut include exhibitions, music and literature performances, film festivals and seminars.

Deutsche Welle”, the German international broadcaster, is highly appreciated as a reliable source of information by many Bangladeshis. Especially the DW-radio programmes are very popular and are followed all over Bangladesh.

In order to promote academic exchange between Germany and Bangladesh, the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offer scholarships to Bangladeshi students and young researchers. If you are interested in pursuing your higher education in Germany, detailed information will be given to you by the DAAD Information Point at the Goethe Institute where study counselling is available. Many Bangladeshi scholars and scientists have completed their academic training in Germany. About 200 of them are organized in alumni associations.

The German federal government is much committed to the preservation of the country’s cultural heritage.
